Re: [bolger] Re: building a Sneakeasy

Perfectly clear, and I am sure it worked out great. I
certainly understand your desire to have your boat set
up accurately.

In all cases that would not necesarily create the
layout from the plans, however, which was why I asked.
Since stringers between bulkheads can lie differently
from what the layout is, bent sticks will normaly free
form to a prabolic shape, while a lot of the Bolger's
boats seem to have circular sections. That's just
theory, there probably isn't fraction of an inch
difference in it.

I threw away my sides drawings/patterns (having plotted them out to
tyvek), clamped my sheets directly to the sides/stringers, and
transferred the shape for cutting. Very easy.

I guess I wasn't too concerned. I did not lay out the panels to
exact measurements but rather built the frames(molds) to be exactly
like the plans and glued and fastened the panels, which I cut
slightly oversized, onto the stringer and chine logs and trimmed off
the excess.

I'm sure your right. How will/have you handle/d the
possibility that the panel outlines may differ from
the stringer outlines?

Thanks Harry
It was my second stop after Greg Carlsons's site.

I approached it from a setup point of view. I was mainly concerned
with getting everything square. Gregg Carlson built his by doing as
you say, mounting the chine logs and sheer stringer on the panels
first. Each works fine , I guess it is a matter of personal
preference.

Nice site. I'm thinking about it.

Neat way to build her, kind of like a skin boat. Is
there any particular reason why you aren't just
nailing the strigers to the ply, and bending her
around molds?

Is anyone else in the group building a Sneakeasy? I'm
about 3/4 done <BR>
with mine, if the group is interested I have a website
