[bolger] Re: Progress in the Jungle
Further to earlier post, it occured to me that Nymph is very popular and I
will have the 1/8 doorskin patterns when I finish. So, if you have the
plans or Payson's book I will be glad to loan you the patterns for the price
of postage, if you would like to avoid the learning experience of laying out
all these patterns.
Gregg, would it be appropriate to start an index folder in the vault showing
who has patterns and such for loan to homebuilders? Builders must already
own the source plans or books.

Well, I finally shook the holidays and spent a couple of days building in
the Jungle Boat Shop. I have three projects going: a sail rig for the 12
foot skiff (why is it every time we finish a nice rowboat we can't wait to
get a sail or some power on it?), a 20-foot Glen-L Sweet Caroline dory, and
a Bolger Nymph (for my grandson - and to stay eligible to gam on this Bolger
list).
I have prototyped a 60 sq ft polytarp sprit rig and leeboards for the skiff,
but finished too late for sea trials - maybe Monday.
On the dory, I have finished the strongback (pretty hefty and a little
project in itself - may have to build another 20-er just to amortize the
tooling). How did we ever build anything before power-driven screws? Also,
scarfed a 2x6 x 20 foot fir keel piece, which will be trimmed to length
after all the framing is set up. I set up a little cardboard tent over the
scarf joint and placed a 75 watt light bulb inside to cure the epoxy. Made
1/8 plywood patterns for the stem and breasthook laminations. Next week,
will cut out and laminate the stem and breasthook, saw the three frames, and
set up the stem, keel, and frames.
I'm also going to make 1/8 patterns for the Nymph, which I'm laying out from
Payson's book.
More as progress dictates...
