[bolger] MARTHA JANE and Trailer issues
Dept. Upgrades 'by popular request':
MARTHA JANE plans will be upgraded soon with advanced leeboards,
rudder-option, and 'house'.
Dept. Downgrading that bouncy trailer:
- The obvious - with care and checking - lower tire-pressure while
keeping an eye on tire-temps during longer runs.
- Better go to your local/regional 'Spring Sales & Repair Service'
outfit to
a. put a weaker spring ointo your MONO-leaf spring set-up, or
b. pull out a suitable spring - they'll know which - out of the
MULTI-leaf set-up; keep spring!
They can re'bundle' any multi-leaf assembly.
And they can 're-arch' an older flatter spring - assuming it is not
corroded right at the centerbolt, a common problem.
- NORTHERN HYDRAULICS and others sell various trailer pieces incl.
springs, axles, torsion-bar suspensions, brakes, hubs etc, by 'RELIANT'
or so company specializing in this stuff. Thus, if the spring guys see
you as a nuisance between 15-ton garbage-truck spring repair jobs, with
MATCHING parts in your hand, they might 'get rid' of you in under an
hour.
- Yes, it will cost money...
P.S. N.H. torsion-spring assemblies can be ordered direct from
manufactuers for particular rating (of course!) but also for particular
ride-height independent of wheel diameter or trailer particulars!!
This allows a long but light TENNESSEE to get onto one moderate trailer
while increase ground-clearance will allow moving 'at will' in and out
of ramp-intensive parking lots without grinding the transom and
outboard over that long lever-arm. Again, see also
're-arching'/'flattening' for such modifications. You can customize
off-the-rack trailers to become the 'perfect' trailer for your boat.
It's worth the hunt.
