[bolger] Re: Anybody built a singlehanded schooner?
I am considering the single hand schooner but with a stern hung rudder with
kick-up. Anyone have any sailing experience with this boat? My next
project is the bolger Pirate Boat (14'). Anyone build one of these?

There is an illustration of the Singlehanded Schooner on HH Payson's web
site.

More detailed information can be found in Bolger's book "Boats with an Open
Mind".
I purchased the plans about a year ago, and haven't built it yet, because it
seems unsuitable for beaching, or sailing in a shallow lake. The design
used a removable, but heavily ballasted daggerboard (about 125 lbs), and the
rudder is mounted under the hull, not on the stern.

Basically the single handed schooner is a 19' version of the light schooner. I
bought the plans from Dynamite Payson. There's some basic info on his website :

I'm not sure exactly where the plans are! Definitely boxed up somewhere at
home.

Hi John,
I have not even seen the plans for the single handed schooner! Do you have a
scanner, could you e-mail them to me. Wow, I love to see them.
P.S. I just purchased a 99% complete folding schooner.
Charles.

Charles.
I bought plans several years ago but never got around to building one. Has anyone seen or sailed on one?
Call me curious,
John.
