Afew weeks ago my kids towed a 12' out board dinghy whose 15 hp OB
was knackered. they were rowing a JB with 2 sets of6 1/2 ' oars.
So my question would be why an outboard?
I'd personally want a wider boat with aanything over 4.5 hp
is that any help/

Thanks for the interesting story, Daniel.

Hello

A few years ago I built a "modified" June bug especially as a
motorboat. The modification was to take out all the stern rocker. The
boat performed very well with a 6 hp 2-stroke, and planed nicely with
two adults and a child. If I was doing it again, the other
modification would be to run the sides straight back to a wider
transom and wider bottom at the back. The reason for this is that the
narrow transom is no advantage on a motorboat, and in fact decreases
the bouyancy aft and can result in flooding in following seas.

By this point, however, the boat is not really a June Bug anymore. It
was really designed as a sailboat/rowboat, and I'm sure there are
better powerboat designs out there.

Any Junebug owners have an outboard on the transom?

If so, what size and what do you think of it?

Thanks,
