Hello
A few years ago I built a "modified" June bug especially as a
motorboat. The modification was to take out all the stern rocker. The
boat performed very well with a 6 hp 2-stroke, and planed nicely with
two adults and a child. If I was doing it again, the other
modification would be to run the sides straight back to a wider
transom and wider bottom at the back. The reason for this is that the
narrow transom is no advantage on a motorboat, and in fact decreases
the bouyancy aft and can result in flooding in following seas.
By this point, however, the boat is not really a June Bug anymore. It
was really designed as a sailboat/rowboat, and I'm sure there are
better powerboat designs out there.
