Oh yes, and especially those Flying Tadpole imitators upside down in teh
southern ocean in teh Vendee Globe, BOC etc etc

Perhaps the Oz entrant in the A's Cup should have been renamed "Skiffy
the Blushed Kangaroo"

Hey Pippo, I was only on at the time to cure my insmonia!
It did, too, now I'm wholly awake...

Actually, this is going to be very interesting in terms of Team NZ NOT
having the traditional Defender series. Defender Series have often turned
out to be pretty Lame, as in '92 (the Bill Koch's Cash america's cup) and
the '95 (why even have one when three of the challengers could have beat the
any of the defenders?)

I think team NZ will perform quite well with the program they've been doing.
They've spent money on two fully qualified crews and have therefore been
able to really tune their boats.

I think the AC is much better overseas (Italy would be great too Pippo!)
than in the US. The New York YC always comes out to play and always (in two
offshore challenges) gets their butts kicked (Kolius in '87, Ed Baird this
year). I really enjoy seeing the NYYC lose. May the Cup never return to
Newport (nothing against you Northeasterners, just lousy sailing weather!).
Also, it seems to attract more challengers, which is part of the fun. Why
wasn't the UK represented Mr. Samson? One of the really surprising turns,
not to have the old colony challenged by the mother country. I am
infuriated at ESPN for not showing the semis live. Nothing live in the US
until the actual cup series.

Not quite right Chuck "old chap".

During the previous challenger series, when your boats were high-
tailing for home under tow because the breeze was 30 knots rising,
the 2 NZ boats raced through under spinnaker, like barracuda
through a shoal of minnows.
Of course you are right though. I grant you, anything can happen
in these boats.
Don
Pippo,

It is fair when a team chooses not to race, or not to race hard because they
feel it gives them a better chance at the overall goal. Why should Paul push
his boat hard to win a race he does not need to win. He has already one the
semifinal! Just because his loss also puts a hurdle in the way of his
strongest competetor doesn't make it unfair. Prada is in this position
because they did not dominate this round as they have in the others, and so
its there own fault.

I can't wait to see who wins today, TDC vs. America True, and what the jury
concludes about Prada's protest.

I would really love to see a sail off between America One and Prada, and so
prove who the best boat and crew are!

Fair winds,
Chuck C.
Don,

I forgot to mention that I have a beautiful Folding Schooner that I can put
up!

Chuck C.
Don old boy,

I don't think it will be so cut and dry. The NZ team has not been racing
hard as have the other teams, or rather have not had to push as hard. If it
were me I'd rather be the challelnger and not the defender. I think they
will have their hands full keeping the cup!

It no doubt will be a good series.

Don, I can do something in that sense if required... Actually I did
some last night when I saw America One against Star and Stripes. That
regatta reminded me the lady cop's car driving test in "Police
Axademy". Fair play... Anyway, we're getting closer and closer.
Regarding your bet, I can put up my almost completed Caravelle hull
that Luna Rossa will win!

Sorry to break the news Chuck, but you have a snowballs chance

Don
thanx i needed that
On the America's Cup "bent"-

Has anyone noticed how "sharpieish" the hull forms of these boats are?
Plumb bow carried clear of the water, mostly narrow beam for overall length
and fairly flatish bottoms with adequate rocker, running backstays? Of
course they didn't have those incredible strut/bulb combinations and carbon
fiber masts or high roach mainsails in the 19th century, but the hulls of
these boats seem almost to be rounded off sharpies.

So... if PCB will design an AC class boat for plywood/carbon fiber
construction, I'm sure we could root up a crew amongst the list. We could
get "DAP Welwood" sponsor logos for our polytarp mainsails and "WEST System"
on the Navy Surplus parachute material spinnakers. I was thinking we'd name
the boat "Sponsor Desired". The crew would be affectionately know as the
"undesirables" Our budget of US $100,000 should see us through. Through
enough beer anyway.

Of course, at the beginning of the Folding Schooner there's line in which
PCB says he swore an oath on a Copy of Claud Worth's "Yacht Cruising", "I
will never read a rating rule again..."

:)

Chuck,
wow, thanks, I'm confused! For sure give me a call if you happen around
here. We're now hosting a crew of 6 brave US guys who are installing, in
the observatory I'm undeservedly director of (this is pure Italian
understatement) what will be the most sophisticated satellite and lunar
laser ranging station in the world (non-military), so you may want to
visit that too other than a much lower tech Micro. Moreover, Matera is
quite an unique town, part of the UNESCO mankind heritage for its
historical importance (many say that Matera is the oldest town in the
world...)
Regarding Prada, their 50 million US$ budget is a bit, well, far away in
the financial hyperspace with respect to us "wacky" home boatbuilders;
anyway, I still remember "Azzurra" and "Il Moro di Venezia" so I'd
really like to see the next cup regattas in more relaxed hours. If it
happens, you all bolgerphiles watch carefully for a Micro bobbing around
there, and I'll be smiling and waving on board...
Best and thanks again, Pippo

P.S.: the penalty given to Luna Rossa in the regatta against America One
was a pure anglo-saxon invention... I HAD to say that... yesterday I
said to my US contractor team not to talk to me for the whole day... ;-)

Pippo,

I love you over there, contributing in a meaningful way on this chat group,
and your website. Bravo! I hope some day to make it over there again and
see you and your finished boat.

I also love those Prada guy's. What a great boat and team. I think I have
another hero. I'm sure you're all very proud of them. What a great race
agianst America One. I have to tell you I am an enormous fan of Paul Cayard,
and America One, and I am rooting for them to thrash the New Zeelanders! I
sail out here on the San Francisco Bay and support the home team. Paul,
really is a great guy. If however, they get beat by Prada, I'll be happy for
you guys! What a great victory that would be for Italy.

May the best boat and crew win!

Chuck C.
Hey Peter, look at what you've done ;-)!
I'd go to sleep now, but messages are flowing in at an impressive rate
(and the America's Cup regatta will be on the TV soon - I hate Paul
Cayard!).
Best, Pippo
