Re: WINDERMERE revealed...at last!
Thanks for the information Peter. Sorry, I meant the later version of
Sneakeasy.
I was interested in the fillet idea, because I am halfway through
doing the same to my Micro. With that amount of stored weight in
your boxkeel, she should be as solid as the rock of Gibraltar.
Yes, I think she is an exceptionally good looking and practical
design, and you are to be congratulated for your part in her.

Max,
Yes,WINDERMERE has the DLD toilette feature and this is just as
well since most composting heads would require a considerable amount
of electricity to opperate properly in my generally cooler climate.
The holding tank is not a ballast feature.......
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, still wondering about the usefullness of Zebra mussels
for serious chomping/recycling of waste element.....

Ahh Chuck,
While this may be a wee bit premature considering the boat ain't
even built yet,but I can easily see the enviro-police going ballastic
when the fuel, batteries and holdingtank explode in one mighty toxic
blast..........besides,I'm Irish!
I'd much rather have me friends gathered around the boat for a
good soaking in the finest beverages available from the"licker"store
followed by a non too serious parade over to the as yet built PHILIP

Morning John,
One of the advantages of this type of construction is that one
can proceed with the building of many components(bulkeads etc) before
actual setup. This will allow me to begin in a space no bigger then a
garage. If things move along smartly, summer time should see me
assembling the whole works together. In fact,Bolger recommends
starting with the bulkheads to work up effecient building habits then
moving on to the side-panels and finally the bottom. The bottom is
meant to be built upside down as a unit and virtually finished before
roll-over.Afterward,bulkheads are installed using temporary braces
followed by"wrapping around" the pre-assembled side panels.
Yes that is a small aft deck which can be expanded by lowering an
(optional) panel aft.The skiffs overhead are lowered and retrieved
through an ingenius davit setup included on the plans from Bolger. Our
hero thinks of everything!
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, wishing he lived in the sunny sunny south!

Hello Don,
The fillet you refer to is out of plywood with foam to fill in
the dead space.Yes,it is used to reduce the slap/pounding of wave
action. The boxkeel in this boat(unlike SNEAKEASY?) is partially used
to hold/store key elements of the boat eg;batteries, anchor.
Her "ballast" comes from a thick bottom and shoe assembly along
with the weight of the batteries(1824lbs).Of course, the freshwater
holding tanks(835lbs) and fuel capacity(1230lbs) is not to be ignored
and contribute positively to her overall stability.
The"tanks" you refer to are actually part of the battery
pack. All the tanks are situated bellow the cabin floor but not in the
boxkeel.
Glad to hear that you think she is good looking! Bolger is
such a crafty designer........!
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan

A sweet little cruiser you have there. Looks like quite project ahead of
you. Hope you can secure some heated building space so you can at least make
progress in the winter time.
Is that a deck aft above the motors? How are you supposed to launch (and

Peter, what a hell of a fine looking craft.
A couple of points of interest to me- seems to be a Sneakeasy type
hull, with the corner filled in, presumably to cut out slap? Is the
fill in piece foam or ply? Does she have water ballast...looks like
tanks down the keel?
No more anchoring to beat the tides!

David,
Thanks.Sure,it appears as a big shift but it has the headroom I've
always dreamed about along with some genuine space to
cruise/live-a-board in fine fashion, also something I've dreamed of for
a very very long time.
That little derrick in front? Well, that's for raising a 30lb
anchor without fear of damaging the hull sides or wrecking my lower
back and as I intend to do alot of river cruising,I expect to do alot
of anchoring to take fukk advantage of the autonomy this boat offers
from expensive marinas etc......
She'll be a grand sight to see coasting down to a future Lake
Champlain Bolger Messabout with all the comforts of home including a
very happy Pesky Crew!!
And finally,if I do this right,WINDERMERE should out-live me by a
long shot.A truly wonderful way to ease into retirement and
ultimately out of this life.Heeee! Haaaa!
Continued Success with FIREFLY!

I am new to the Bolger group but have built a Nymph and a Micro. I am very excited about the Windermere design. It represents a size and usability level that makes it an attractive project. By this I mean that the boats in the 20-23 foot catagory require a lot of building time and still don't quite meet my desires for extended cruising. This one really promises a lot. I will eagerly follow any and all building projects of this design. I hope a web site will go along with this detailing the building experience!
Good Luck with this exciting project. Perhaps I will be next.
