difference is that there is no attachment of the heel of the yard to
the mast. The tradeoff is that the gunter may bind and be difficult
to raise or lower, whereas the Solent Lug may blow off downwind and
be hard to control.
His preference extends even to quite large boats such as the Wolf
Trap 30 about which he said that the yard was unpopular "for reasons
easy to imagine." Very easy!

according to "103 Small Rigs." However, I notice that these are used
in many designs still. Could it be that it has more virtures than
vices. Would anyone care to comment?
