Re: Tender for Micro

I have a Shoebox, and hope to build a Junebug this spring. The way I
see it, if the Shoebox was modified a bit it would fit into the stern
of Junebug.

So you row out to the mooring in the Junebug with the Shoebox in the
stern. Once aboard Micro or Chabacco choose the most appropriate
tender (if any) to tow for that sail, leaving one or both tenders at
the mooring. End result you get to own THREE boats.

Hi,

Had similar thoughts when looking for a tender for the Chebacco. I eventually plumped for a June Bug because it could take me and two passengers with ease; is immensely stable; fast under oar (essential to stem the tide around here); is very light; and can be built very cheaply!

Trouble is that it's 14 feet long - almost as long as a Micro! Certainly, towing her behind the Chebacco didn't help performance at all! I ended up (most of the time) rowing out to the mooring in the June Bug, and tying her up at the mooring when I went off in the Chebacco. That meant that when I arrived at my destination I had to sail the Chebacco into shallow water if I wanted to wade ashore. I guess this wouldn't be a problem with Micro, either.

An alternative is to use, say, a Shoebox, or Chuck Merrell's lovely little Apple Tart and that'll tow with less trouble than June Bug. She won't be fast though, and you'd be pushing it to get two aboard.
