I just wanted to say that this thread is a great
example of a subject line that is sure to get
attention. I wish I could come up with snappy subject
lines that would guarantee people would read all my e-mails.

Hi,
Heard an idea from Chuck Merrell a few years ago. You'll recall that he lived aboard his Jessie Cooper, 'Tomboy' for a number of years. (Tomboy is the one that features in the top left hand picture on the cover of "Boats with an Open Mind").
Anyway, Jessie suffers as much as any flat-bottomed boat from slap. Seems the way round it is to tie some kind of 'cushion' under the bow, to suppress the slapping noises when at anchor. Chuck's name for this was a 'training bra'! Something like a large fender can be used, for example.
