Re: small diesel cruisers
The pictures of the marina cruiser under sail are in MAIB Vol 18 -
No 20.
In the article bolger says "The phrase *marina cruiser* was
unfortunate in a way as it suggested a lot less capability than the
design actually delivers".
Bruce Tyson is the New Zealand owner/builder and he says of
the boat that "she sails quite well".
He has named his boat "Merlin" which PCB is thinking of using
as the type name for the reason given above.
Vance,
Who is going to try posting the piks to Bolger 2.

Thanks Peter,
The one man live-a-board concept has always drawn my imagination
toward the same profile pulled out to somewhere around 26 or 28 feet
with the interior layout of perhaps the Nimble WANDERER seen here;
http://www.nimbleboat.com/
In fact,if I ever found myself with way too much money in my bank
account,I would blow it on a custom WANDERER.
That sailing shot of the MARINA CRUISER you refer to(there were
two shots,if I recall correctly) have got to be some of the nicest
I've seen showing just how powerful and no-nonsense this boat really
is and that despite the degraded photo imaging in MAIB.Those same
photos in color,on quality paper, would be enough to mesmerize me for
untold hours!
Sincerely,
Peter L.

The Marina Cruiser appeared in at least two articles in MAIB. The
first was the same material that appeared in BWAOM. I scanned the
second, and put the two pages up in Bolger2 files under Marina
Cruiser. I also scanned and posted an article on the One Man
Liveaboard Concept, which is a very similar. I don't know which is
chicken and which is egg, except that if the Marina Cruiser design
was complete and available, I don't thing he would have done the
other.
I think there was another picture of the Marina Cruiser showing her
under sail, but I didn't find it while rummaging around this morning.
In a separate folder, I put a scan of an article on a Moderate Speed
Cruiser. This is an OB boat for a similar use, and with a quiet 4-
cycle ob, would be quite nice. Too bad it is a concept for a FG
production boat, not a home-build.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I wonder if any of those with the
magazines and the facilities would be able to scan the MAIB and/or SBJ
articles to share?
TIA,

Look at John Welsford's designs too. He has a few designs in his "Backyard
boatbuilder" book. They are designed for construction grade timber, if I
remember correct.
Have fun .

I have never seen a picture of the Ply Diesel Cruiser. I think you
can trust that it is a handsome boat. There have been pictures of a
Marina Cruiser in MAIB of a boat built "down under." It's high sided,
and the flush deck style isn't for everyone, but the hull shape is
handsomely modeled.
Of other boats in this vein, "Alice" is shown in model form in
BWAOM. "Mikim" is in 30-Odd boats, shown in drawing and under
construction.
Finally, in his Small Boat Journal series, Bolger sketched a "single
handed cruiser" similar to the Marina Cruiser. I'm not sure that it
became a finished design. Perhaps the Marina Cruiser IS the finished
design.

p.s. Evan Gatehouse is currently designing a boat about like this at
www.bateau.com. See the 24' Trawler discussion under the Wish list

I assume you already know about Arch Davis' Jack Tar and the
Shoestring Shipyard's Humble Peasant.
Not a bolger design but here's another small diesel cruiser to ponder :

I take it from the complete lack of response to my message that no
one has seen pics of any of these or seen one in real life?

Greetings all!
I've been lurking about the list recently after several months out of
touch.
No, I am not picking up on an old thread, just wondering if anyone has
any pics or first-hand impressions of any of PCB's small, low-powered
power cruisers like the Plywood Diesel Cruiser and Marina Cruiser from
BWAOM or others.
I've been daydreaming recently about family outings in a small power
cruiser and I would be interested in learning more from the horse's
mouth and/or seeing something more that the drawings.
Thanks and regards,
