Re: free albatros'
Actualy, I'm looking at a 6hp instead of the eight. Only a couple of
pounds, and a couple of hundred more, than the 5hp.
Maybe the Mercury with the high thrust prop...?

I second Jamie Orr's advice. I have a 5hp Merc on my 2250lb sloop,
and it is more than enough power.

Richard, I expect that's for your Chebacco? I don't know what the Nissan
weighs, but I've got a 5 hp Honda (advertised at 60 pounds dry weight.) I
wouldn't want any more weight than that back there, and I can't use more
than those 5 horses anyway. Also, Bill Samson uses his 4 hp to successfully
buck some strong currents in the Tay estuary. You might find a lighter
engine is better suited -- cheaper too.
I should add, I guess, that my 3 gallon tank also sits in the well with the
engine, and adds it's weight, but I like the range all that gas gives me,
and its nice to have it outside the cockpit/cabin areas.
Nice "negotiating", there!

Wife had a fit last night when I told her I had decided to fix the 15hp Eska
in the scrap pile. She threatened to take it to the dump! I told her they
would charge her $100 to get rid of it. She then threatened to dump it off
beside the road! She ordered me to buy the 8hp Nissan, new, with the
warrenty.
Such is life.
Then, she accused me of setting her up, so she would tell me to buy the new
motor! Like I would do that!
Anyway, I have a 15hp Otasco (Eska) and a 7.5hp Sears motor, with an extra
lower unit for the 15hp.
They are good for parts, though someone with the "touch" might be able to
get one or both to work.
Any takers?
