[bolger] Re: Pippo - America's Cup
Hi Chuck
well, you know, I'm not really that involved in this stuff, I've been
mostly joking on this. And having around a few guys from the US made
things more fun. You should see the discussion we have every monday
morning at the observatory on the soccer games! My real Italian sailing
hero is Giovanni Soldini. Now he does real sailing. He won the last
Around Alone with a budget which is about one tenth w.r.t. to the Prada
Team. I have his videotape showing the boat making 20+ knots in a full
gale, it seems a powerboat! Incredible.
flyer miles to spend... I've been in SF only once and I liked it a lot.
Actually I was in Palo Alto (at the Stanford campus) but drove downtown
SF several times. Beautiful place.
Best, Pippo

Pippo,
You had me laughing as I pictured the American contractors tiptoeing around
with this angry Italian boss ranting and raving about some sailing thing.
Boy they must have really gotten an earfull when you found out that Stars and
Strips beat America One! You must be thinking Paul threw the race, huh?
Now about the penalty, come on! Everybody knows the rules! The umpires
waited a long time before calling a penalty. Prada could have held steady
without dropping closer.
I would like to see the races completed without intervention from the umpires
but on the other hand I don't want to see either of these boats damaged. The
regatta has to be played out with umpires, and we have to go with their
calls, or we will end up seeing cannons on deck. And if cannons ever come
back then of course we would have to worry about the British taking the cup
back.
What is your opinion of Prada filing a 20 page protest against TDC?
Hey, If Paul Cayard brings the cup back to San Francisco, then you can stay
at my house Pippo, and I'll show you my Folding Schooner, and we can sail out
and watch the racing. Well maybe just sail around the bay and watch the
boats came and go. I can't really see the FS out in open water. Although if
we could get close enough to one of the participants right as we were sinking
maybe we could get a ride after the rescue.
Fair winds my Italian friend,
Chuck C.

Hey, If Paul Cayard brings the cup back to San Francisco, then you can stay
at my house Pippo, and I'll show you my Folding Schooner, and we can sail out

boats came and go. I can't really see the FS out in open water. Although if
