Re: [bolger] Monhegan and/or Master Hand Friendship Sloops
That would be Truancy, a beautiful little Bolger boat. She's a "Muscongus
Bay" sloop, of sorts. I think the owner said the design was "Fancy".

Missionaries, my Dear! Don't you realize that missionaries are the divinely
provided food for destitute cannibals? Whenever they are on the brink of
starvation, Heaven in its infinite mercy send them a nice plump missionary.

In 2000 I saw an open boat at the Port Townsend show that I believe was a
Bolger non-box. I doubt if its what you want since I think the models you
mention both have cabins, but it looked Friendship-ish. If you want to look
at it, go to John Kohnen's pictures of that boat show on his site. Search
for Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival or go through his Mother of All
Maritime Links.

I have a question or two regarding the above designs. The latest
WoodenBoat has an article on Phil Bolger's 'non box' designs and the
Monhegan was one of those described. I have read the chapters on both
of these designs in his 'Small Boats', I have checked the archives of
the group to see if there has been any discussion of either of these
designs, and I have done a web search on both of them. So far, I have
found very little.
What I'd like to know is if anybody has built either of these, and if
anybody knows of a website which might have pictures of them. Any
help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Joe Dupere
