[bolger] Square Boat anti-fouling
Local square boats (Tennessee & WYoming derivatives, genuine Bolger
AS29, Several Micros, several Martha Janes, a Long Micro, Mike Storer
river launches) here all use Bote-Cote's copper-epoxy mix, as do the
arch-rival Norwalk islands Sharpies. (I've got soft ablative antifoul as
boot topping as well). The copper-epoxy on Lady Kate went on during
building 1994, still doesn't need anything more than an occasional sweep
with a stiff broom, other than around the ss rudder where all sorts of
strange reactions between copper-epoxy and ss have been going on.
There's no sign on Lady Kate of slap effects (we were on a rough mooring
for 18 months), but now she's in a still marina, I note that one has to
go sailing to dislodge the fine beard which appears despite the copper.!

On Loose Moose we used an electronic anti fouling system that worked very
well...it was a series of hockey pucks that epoxied to the interior of the
hull ...nine in total that were driven by a control box. The daily power
drain was about 6 amps. The company that made ours is no longer with us but
there is another similar product called "Cricket" which I have heard good
things about.

I don't like hard anti-fouling paint which is nasty to the health when
removed after build-up.
So I used Awlcraft copper ablative (wearing away) type on my
Micro.
An interesting problem this paint, when applied to a Bolger box
which slaps up and down on a mooring..........after 5.5 months the
paint has worn away completely around the chine at the 4 quarters
of the boat, where presumably the water jets around and up as the
boat slaps up and down on the exposed mooring. The paint
elsewhere and around the underwater chine is perfect.
I had actually anticipated this, and applied extra coats to the
chines.
Mind you, I calculated that up til when this is written, the boat has
slapped the water 1,900,800 times.

An interesting problem this paint, when applied to a Bolger box
which slaps up and down on a mooring..........after 5.5 months the

boat slaps up and down on the exposed mooring. The paint
elsewhere and around the underwater chine is perfect.
I had actually anticipated this, and applied extra coats to the
chines.
Mind you, I calculated that up til when this is written, the boat has
slapped the water 1,900,800 times.
