Re: Clam Skiff Streach

If you take the side plank meaurements and use them as "stations",
you can re-space them to make a 24' boat with the same beam etc;. For
example, I stretched "June Bug" by usung the same plank widths, but
on 14.5" centers to make a 16' boat. I also straightened it aft of
mid length and widened by 3". The latter by simply adding 1.5" to
either side if the centerline, giving it a "bow-transom" about 4"
wide. I took all of this and built a 1/8 scale (1.5"=12") model. It
looks pretty good, although it's now home to three of wife's Beanie-
Babies. The idea was to have a cartop-able "Work-Skiff 15". Now if I
could only talk wife into letting me use the living-room of our
apartment as a boat-shop...

Didn't someone on the group mention that it is possible to streach the
length on the clam skiff from 18' to up to 24' without messing with the
other demensions. I keep revisiting this design (mentally) for a
possible project.

Now a buddy of mine in Bay Saint Louis, MS is looking for a hull for a
one man clam tonging, shrimp dragging machine, and I am trying to
convince him that a Big Diablo probably ain't the boat to go tonging on.

Anyway, what do you guys think of the pros and cons of streaching the
length on a clammer up to 24'? Reasonable idea or dumb ass thing to
consider? Please advise.
