Starting in 1995 and for about 5 years I raised my 5 boys alone. Ages 7 to 15 in 1995. I did manage to build a Frolic2 in 1999 but I had the help of lot's of hands when needed. You can't imagine how much sanding can be done when conscripting the sons to work. Chuckle.....and they where very reluctant, but I did manage to get it done.
Now all but one have left the nest.
If the boys where younger as in ages 1 - 7,there is no way I could have even tried to build a boat.
I'm inspired by you for working it in somehow. Best of luck!

If I am not mistaken aren't you the one who also is building or
rebuilding a house and one of those children arrived since you started?
I can see where you might need some boatbuilding therapy, I just don't
see where you find the time.

I have heard that the cabins on Birdwatcher type boats can get pretty
warm in Florida or the Gulf of Mexico.

Steve,
I am the one building the Jochems in the B2 files. For the time being
the projects hibernates under double tarp, 1 foot snow and a naked
maple tree. In two months time the bird Phoenix will rise and fly
towards the Oslo Fjord (1 mile away). I will keep posting new pics as
soon as I have news to bring forward to those interested.

Hello Mark: Drawings of the camper (#640) can be found in the

intended use, but I want something with good sitting headroom
on a real bunk with stowage underneath, plus an outboard

You might consider PCB&F #640,18 feet and with the Jochems
look. It would take half the lumber and probably still have
more real cruising room for two than most production 19 footers.
Drawing were in the files but have been removed, I think.

Too bad the plans are gone from Bolger Files. See WDJ in the

Y'all will enjoy this story -- a nice counterpoint to "Micro and
divorce." My girlfriend likes to sail and owns a small fiberglass
boat (a Starwind 19), but she's been, um, lukewarm about my
grandiose boatbuilding schemes. Okay, so "lukewarm" is an
exxageration. She humors me. You know how it goes: "Gee,
that's nice, honey. Can you help me move this box to the attic?"
So this morning I decided to show her Bolger's WoodenBoat
article on shoal draft cruisers. I laid the photo of the Wm. D.
Jochems in front of her, expecting the usual. Before I could
explain about water-ballast, self-righting, leeboards, yada, yada,
she declared:
"Love the windows! That's the boat. You should build it. How
much will it cost -- maybe we should go in on it together?"
