Re: lug sail with offset mast

through the middle of the head, and/or upset a tightly interwoven
accomodation plan. When the design was improved into the AS-29, the
gaff rig was used.
Why not move the mast forward and rig it as a gaff?

I was looking at the postings in Bolger2 files for an offset mast to
improve the setting of a lugsail. To summarise, the suggestion is to
use a masthead crane to hang the sail a short ways from mast.
First let me say that I think that having the sail lie against the
mast causing a "dent" in the sail is probably less harmful than
having the mast standing proud of the sail in the very most critical
part of the airfoil.
But, second, let me ask, why not set the mast in a offset step angled
so the mast head is over the centerline? This could be done fairly
easily in Jesse Cooper, for example. (There is a hatch to be dealt
with...) If we are trying to think like PCB, we don't want to be hung
up on details like having out mast verticle.

not worrying about them at this time.)
improve the setting of a lugsail.
