Anyone contemplating this trip should get ahold of the book THE BOAT WHO
WOULD NOT FLOAT by Farley Mowat. It is the story of the famous Canadian
writer's voyage in a leaking, prone-to-sinking, "South Shore Bummer"
schooner which he purchased in Newfoundland after WWII and managed to
sail upstream to Montreal. It is autobiographical, but Mowat himself
admits that "he never let the truth get in the way of a good story".
Regardless of the veracity (or lack there of) of all the episodes, it
is a great read.
