Re: Bantam #654 by Phil Bolger
I put the scan of the plan in your Bantam folder in Bolger2. Hope you
don't mind. Now it can be deleted from the files in this group. - PHV

According to a conversation with Phil and Susanne in December 2001,
the houseboat plans are available.
Apparently the plans were missing once-upon-a-time, but this is no
longer the case.

I had thought that Bantam without the house would be an interesting
day boat. Now it's proven. It's higher-sided in appearance than I
thought. My eye still needs a lot of education in interpreting plans,
I guess.
Equipment? An awning, a hammock, and a beer.

I have just posted in Bolger2 a picture of the completed hull of the
Bantam by John Bartlett. John has built many Bolger boats and this
one is a credit to both the designer and the builder. We performed
extensive tests in the intercoastal waterway near Ft. Pierce Fl. and
the St. Lucie river in Beautiful St. Lucie County, the home of the
grapefruit and oranges. The performance of the Bantam was
incredible,
far surpassing expectations with the 9.9 yamaha four stroke. Besides
a wonderful few days with a new boat, we saw abundant wildlife
including numerous porpoises and had a great afternoon lounging with
a
large group of manatees. John is hoping to complete the cabin
portion
of the Bantam soon and we will keep you posted. I am posting this
for
John because despite his great boatbuilding skills, he will master
the
internet later. Somewhat Bolgerlike behaviour like the great one
hisself.
On another note, I had planned to build the Bantam myself. Upon
extensive consultation with John, and faxes to Bolger and a
discussion
with Suzanne, I am still in a quandry. Suzannne suggested it would
be
no problem to stretch the Bantam 4 feet to accomodate my heavier
payload but I am smitten by the Bolger Houseboat but the plans are no
longer available. After lots of research, I have designed my own 20
foot, double hull, lightweight houseboat a la Bolger type. I would
like to have a considered opinion of the design and if anyone
contacts
me offline atbysc@...I would be happy to forward a copy of the
draft plan for comment. (it is a large file of 2 megabites in Jpeg
format for the four pages and specify wether you want it in MSWord or
WordPerfect) regards Paul McLellan near the icy shore of the mighty
Ottawa River where the ice breakers have been through to speed up the
spring break up.
