Re: Dakota, I want one
I used all MDO. I paid $38 to $40 for 1/2" and $32 for 3/8 inch. I got
my epoxy and glass at Raka for somewhat less than the price you list. I
am now into the part of the project where the money really flies out the
door and the work gets more tedious: painting, plumbing, wiring,
steering, hardware, fuel system, etc., etc.
I just got $788 worth of water and holding tanks. A sack full of nav
lights, switch panel, and wire was over $200. I think you are way!! low
on the fitting out portion of the list.
I left prices out because I don't know what you will be able to buy
these items for, but below is some of what I have bought for my Dakota
project already. One advantage of building your own though is that you
don't have to buy it all at once.
shoe 4 layers of 1/2 inch, 1/2 sheet wide: 10 sheets
bottom 3 layers 2 sheets wide X 5 long: 30 sheets
hull sides: 10 sheets
cabin sides: 6 sheets
cabin ceiling (I used 3/8") 6 sheets
Cabin beams (I used double 1/2") 4 sheets
cabin roof (I used 3/8") 6 sheets
bulkheads, bunks, cabinetry, etc. (I used 1/2") 14 sheets
epoxy, lots more yet to go, so far I have used 35 gallons
glass cloth 7oz.bias 60" X 250 feet
glass tape 9oz. bias 7"(I split it lengthwise) 7" X 100 ft.
peel ply fabric 10 yds
silica, wood flour, misc. fillers 35 pounds
gloves latex or vinyl 500
stir sticks (tongue depressors) 1 box
plastic mixing tubs 36
roller covers 24
acetone 2 gallons
screws 4 gross
trim & sheer clamps (1 x 4 and 1 x 6 doug. fir) 160 bd. ft.
1/4" acrylic for windows 2" X 3" pieces 18 pieces
sanding disks 50
1" and 2" foam (ceiling insulation & ice box) 6 sheets each
There is probably more I have forgotten, But this is approximately what
I have in my project to date.
