The bottle of rum ... ho ho and;
except the book, *every*
Micro needs a well read
paperback copy of the
_Count of Monte Cristo_
onboard. <g>
Nothing wrong with ruff 'n ready mate, sailing beats sitting any day. Count the summers you have left and keep slapping on the glue and pounding nails. The further you sail from the nice plastic marinas, the less finish matters. Strength and simplicity beats fancy and fragile . Andrew Wilson

Work boat finish, a 3/4" inch bottom and rum, what can go wromg?

Dear Group,

I finally made substantial progress on my Micro this week.

All of the wooden parts / trim has been cut out, with only the rudder
bearing and the mizzen support left to install. I used ash for the
trim parts. It looks beautiful set in epoxy and covered with 5 coats
of polyurethane varnish! Time will tell how long it holds up.

The masts, and sprits all have 4 coats of polyurethane on top of the
epoxy. The main mast partners still need a little fitting as they
are a little too tight at this point.

I have found that WEST 710 filler is great to fill the bumps and
weave. It is not too bad to sand, and leaves a great surface for
paint. I plan to coat with an epoxy barrier coat prior to painting
as per Interlux's directions.

Hopefully, next weekend will allow me to start painting from the top
on down. Lexan windows will go on last.

Can launching be that far away? I will do the floorboards and
floatation last. It really is very watertight as built.

Happy Building,
David Jost
