If you get your scanner fixed I would be interested in seeing the
lobster boat look-alike cabin on the Dakota.

My set of Dakota plans from Bolger has two sheets containing profile
views, section views, expansions and offsets for the hull WITHOUT ANY
cabin. It has a one page accomodation plan for the "streetcar style"
window cruiser cabin. The fourth sheet has four alternate cabin
suggestions. One of those alternates is for a New England lobster boat
look-alike powered by an inboard engine with traditional transmission,
stuffing box, and stern tube. The engine is in the middle of the large
cockpit at about the middle of the boat inside an engine box. The prop
and shaft are protected by a large skeg.

The compromise with this alternative is that one gives up the extreme
shoal draft of the outboard version, and one lives with the engine and
fuel inside the living/working area of the boat. There is much less
enclosed cabin space. Lots more open cockpit area. It opens up many
possibilities for a power plant.

For some waters and intended uses, this would be a reasonable trade-off.
In the drawing it is a good looking traditional boat. Sorry, my scanner
lamp burned out and I haven't located a replacement yet.
