Re: Cynthia J is strong
Gosh Stuart, what a nightmare!
I must say my heart is always in my mouth when my Micro is lifted by
hyab.
The micro keel is quite curved upwards, forward, and the boat will
quite happily slip aft in the slings, the heavier part of the keel
pulling her back. It pays to secure the slings from slipping fore and
aft, except that the drivers are always overconfident, and make you
feel like a novice. Happened nearly terminally to me on the first
ever lift.
Glad you only had minor damage.

Cut out the windows and hatches for the CLC last night. Wasn't thinking and
cut the windows before I cut the hatches in the top of the pilot house.
Even with the windows cut out and only a few pieces of ply and glass
holding the top up, I could craw on top of the pilothouse withoug the
structure even noticing I was there. No worries about strength wen I get the
windows in.

Well I took my Cynthia J hull out through the lounge window today. I wasn't
planning on doing so for another couple of weeks yet, but my landlady
started to threaten me with legal action, to stop me from removing it at
all. (It's a long story, but basically she is pissed off with me for buying
her younger brothers house).
It is now stored in our local road works depot shed, until I take over my
house in a few weeks.
When being taken off my truck with a front end loader, it slipped from it's
strops and fell about five feet to the gravel ground. Fortunately there is
only superficial damage to one of the outside runners and a slight crack in
the epoxy of about two inches at the top of the join between the starboard
side and transom.
This says to me that I have a strong little boat. So while I was
disappointed about the accident, I am happy with what the result has shown
me.
