Re: floor in cockpit

I have many posted at www.ultranet.com/~djost/Micro.htm

I hope to do a photo shoot on Saturday, if the weather cooperates.

Pictures please! :)
Group,
I am still in the finishing stages of my Micro "Firefly".

Today, I finished off the upper coaming, and put another coat of
polyurethane on the spars, I also sealed the ply along the hatch. It
is amazing how much epoxy bear ply absorbs. I know it will check
eventually, but I wanted a fighting chance. Next time I make spars, I
will paint them. This varnish stuff is getting old quickly...(4
coats done.) After Firefly is done, I think I will start on a spare
mast. This first one has a few too many knots in suspect places for
my comfort. $30 of Spruce and a can of epoxy!

I have found that the little floorboards indicated on the plans
are a pain in the neck to build. I planned on making a simple box
that sits between some glued on cleats under the cockpit hatch. The
opening is to be the same size as the hatch cover so one simple
removes that hatch cover, puts is over the box, and it now serves as
a floor for the hatch way. Almost...I cut the back end of the box
about 3 inches too short, and the box is tilted. Oh well, tomorrow
is another day. I know some builders made self bailing cockpits, but
I love to take a nap there while listening to the Red Sox (I gave up
on the Bruins). The box should be just the right size of lifejackets
that will often serve to keep the bottles of wine from breaking :-)

Now to order some paint from Kirby's in New Bedford. Great colors
for Bolger Boats. Maybe the brilliant yellow! It would look like a
Nova Scotia Dory gone bad!

Til next week
