Re: [bolger] Re: How Did MDO Turn Out?

I tried to buy direct from them, but they wouldn't sell to me. They
would only sell through a dealer, who doesn't live any where near where
I do (near as in hundreds of miles). If you are able to work outa deal I
would like to hear about it. I could get a friend to truck a load up to
the barge for a trip to Juneau.

On the Simpson website at the bottom there's a box that
says, "download this document". It's a tech sheet on the Crezon MDO
listing probably more than we want to know about MDO, however it is
an extremely detailed sheet about the strengths and weaknesses of the
stuff.
I downloaded it and uploaded it to the files section on this club
under "crezon.doc". (It's an MS Word document)

you join pieces with glue, do you have to peel off the paper coating?

My lumber yard has some double sided three/eighths MDO that would make a

Thanks for the update John. I'm getting ready to make a trek to
Boulter Plywood for 3/8 and 1/2 double sided MDO so I can get going
on my Michalak Sow's Ear.

I built my AF4 with 1/2" and 3/8" double sided MDO. It's holding up well.
I've left a piece sitting in my yard, unfinished for the better part of a
year now and aside from some discoloration on the edges, you'd never know it
from new.

As for gluing, I left the paper. Lightly sanding the paper surface improved
the quality of the finish for very little effort.

I would use MDO again.
