I figured it wasn't an accidental turn of phrase...

Hello all! =)
Well, I've been away from things for a bit, but hey.. winter does that
to you. Plus the need to focus on paying off debt so you can live your
liveabord life at some point in the hopefully not too distant future. :)
1) Ive ordered the Light schooner plans from instant boats! Can't WAIT
to put this together. I've looked at the ace pages (The Light Schooner
Home Page) and have found nothing but good information there. I do
have one question for the list though: Has anyone converted the rig to
a junk rig? I intend on doing this.. however keeping the jib and
staysail, and building the rig with some panel camber to improve
windward performance. Plenty of examples of this on the junk rig
group, so am not worried about that.
2) Last year, I had the privelege to meet Mr. Bolger, as we live in
Massachussetts, and his wife, Susan.. and their many cats. :) I had
sent them a fax about what we wanted in our liveaboard, and it turns
out that he is designing a boat for another customer which is very
close to our requirements. This boat is a 50' 'schooner' which he
calls the TANDEM, and when I eventually get the plans Ill be glad to
share the idea with you all. Its a lovely excercise in design
compromise, ease of construction, and ease of use.
All in all.. I think the next 3 years are going to be VERY interesting
for us. I intend on whapping together the Light schooner for
excursions on the charles river and to the islands in boston bay.. no
big project there. Just need it to hold together for a few years.
But the TANDEM.. well thats our dream. I have not yet got back in
contact with PB&F, and the design may have changed/been improved since
I saw it. But Its -exactly- what we want. Now we just have to GET
there.. man its hard to find places to build boats in Boston. You'd
think it would be easier, but everywhere is too darn expensive. Well,
we'll see. =)
