RE: [bolger]
How does diameter of blade affect cut on a
curve? Seems that a smaller
diameter would follow curve better. How about
using smaller diameter blade,
say a 5" blade on saw designed for 7" blade
I don't think a small blade "follows" the line better,
it may allow cutting a tighter radius. We started out
here talking about tear-out. You can withdraw a 7"
blade so it only bears the same amount as a 5", and it
may or may not have more set, for freedom of movement
in the cut. The shallower running 7" blade should
cause less tear-out.
Overall the cutting of plywood is the easiest part of
building a boat, and any of the excellent tools
suggested will work. I still say cut just outside the
line with a sharp knife. It will stop tear-out, and
preserve any layout lines from TO erosion.

I use both, but find the skilsaw is easier to follow a line with. When
we were cutting out the panels for three Cartoppers at once, the skil
saw was the only way to go.
