Re: UHMWPE
Thanks Jeff,
Found it right away
http://www.crownplastics.com/specs.htm
I saw scads of sites describing the powder and its applications.
BTW, that the same site that I found the tape/rolls with adhesive on
one side.
Evidently there's a range of types of adhesives available also. I
don't know if any of the adhesives are suitable for marine
application but I'm a-gonna find out!
Thanks again
Jules

work. Just do a search for "UHMW-PE powder". I used Google
and found a lot of links but only a few mentioned mixing it
with a "resin". Sounds like the powder is used in pressure
forming.
Jeff
I also found UMHW in rolled "tape" form with one side glue.

Hi Jeff,
Could you give the URL of where you saw the powder form? I'd like to
experiment with that

Could you give the URL of where you saw the powder form? I'd like to

Hi,
Speaking of UMHWPE, I ran across a good source
for cut-offs of it. He has rods, tubes, squares, flat
sheets etc. All at pretty good pricing.
check them out at:

I bought some flat stock for laying up fiberglass butt
joints. Works great and cheap.

The problem with polyethylene is that nothing sticks to it. I suspect
it would weaken the epoxy, but of course you can try.

There was a thread recently about the UHMW-PE products. I did a search and
found this stuff is available in powder form.
Could it be mixed with epoxy?
Just a thought that maybe this stuff in powder form mixed with epoxy and
fumed silica to make a "bullet proof" hull coating? Probably not as good as
solid sheets but much better than straight epoxy.
Just curious.
Jeff
found this stuff is available in powder form.
Could it be mixed with epoxy?
Just a thought that maybe this stuff in powder form mixed with epoxy and
fumed silica to make a "bullet proof" hull coating? Probably not as good as
solid sheets but much better than straight epoxy.
Just curious.
