Re: [bolger] RE: Welcome to bolger

Do you mean by "to start with" that this is your first boat?

It is traditional, and probably a good idea, to build a small boat first to
work out the techniques.

Perhaps a tender for your proposed 10m boat?

Some good quaility local marine or sign plywood would be best. Get a sample
and check for voids and boil it to test the glue.

5 meter waves? In a 10m boat? OUCH. Where are you planning to sail it, the
north atlantic?

The Bolger AS29 comes to mind, but it can be an aquired taste...

Wayan,

Before we can help much, we need more information.

Do you want a sailboat or power boat? What kind of power?

What do you want to use the boat for? Living aboard, fishing,
pleasure?

How strong are the winds in your area? This is more important than
wave height for both sail and power boats.

It is hard to make recommendations about kinds of wood because the
names are different in different places. The most important
characteristics are strength and rot resistance. Some are better for
glues, and some are better for screws. The best woods from South East
Asia are the mahoganies.

Do you have access to glues such as epoxy resins, to galvanized or
bronze screws, to plywood?

Let us know more. We all have plenty of ideas.

Peter
