Jumping Bolger Ship?

Hi, all.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I lofted and cut the sides and
bottom of the Dobler 16. This boat was written up by Tom F. Jones
in "Low Resistance Boats" a few years back. The Dobler is 16'6" x
5'6". I did not think that I was going to build for another year or
two since I just finished the $200 sail boat/Featherwind last year.
But I came home from a 5 hour sail the other day, stiff, sore, and
hunched over from rollicking around in the bilges of Insrutable all
day. My wife noticed, and I took the opportunity to get her
permission to build a boat with seats! I about fell over when she
agreed. So, off to Home Depot for a few choice goodies yesterday, and
today I have the makings of what I hope to be a fine boat.

The Dobler is built on a strongback. I had plans for Mike Robert's
Green Island 15, but decided I wanted to try my luck with a boat
requiring a jig. I have been eyeing Spartina and some of Oughtred's
designs and think this might be good practice for my next build which
will be clinker built. Don't expect me to build next year. . . that
is of course unless I catch the wife in the right frame of mind,
under the right circumstances and get her permission to build
another. It is not outside the realm of possibility -- only slightly
better than the proverbial snow ball in hell.

Regards,

Dennis Marshall
