Re: [bolger] Tahiti and Puffer

Hi Steve,
No, I don't think that Phil Bolger thinks that the Puffer as presented is anything more or less than
a houseboat designed to look a little more like an ocean going yacht. The disguise is intended to
help avoid being asked to move along by the harbor police allies of expensive waterfront property
owners and their synchophants. In that sense its a pretty clever response and should accomplish its
mission.

However, conversations with Phil about the Puffer indicate that he could, without too much
modification, turn her into a pretty good ocean capable vessel, at which point the appearance would
become the reality. He does say that would be likely to increase her cost a fair amount. Even as she
is, as a river and sheltered estuary cruiser without any desperate schedules to keep, she might make
a very nice floating home. He thinks, too, that one could buy a fair amount of her interior
furniture, cabinets, etc., right out of places like The Home Depot and thus save a lot of money or
time.

I just became aware of the Tahiti design and Puffer concepts today.
They are both very intriguing. Is there any higher resolution scans
available for the Tahiti? Also, the Puffer is mentioned in the
design brief of the Tahiti as a "still a moderately conventional
passagemaker". Looking at the Puffer drawings it looks more like a
river cruiser at best. Does Bolger consider this concept capable of
ocean passages?

TIA
