Re: reefing a sprit, again
I shoot the sprit forward. Even so, I get a beautiful sail shape.
There's nothing like surfing a broad reach with a double reef tied
in!
My sail is only 100 sq ft., but jiffy reefing seems like overkill.
There was a great article on reefing square sprit sails in Wooden
Boat two issues ago that had some very neat ideas, including velcro
on the reefing points and a special grommet on the clew to make it
easier to resheet using a snap hook at the end of the mainsheet.

I just put up the main sail on my Micro, and was trying to figure out
the best way to reef. Obviously, I want to lower the sail and attach
tack to the downhaul line, but do I want to shoot the sprit forward
and use the current clew pegs, thus changing the sheeting angle. Or,
do I want to put on a jiffy reefing arrangement for the clew and keep
the sheet in the same location?
Help.

the best way to reef.
Help.
