Re: 24' Trawler
MAIB, OK, now I get it. I'd heard of the publication but never
have sampled it. I'll check into it. I've been enjoying BoatBuilder
magazine and SBJ before that, so it sounds like I'd also like MAIB.

Are you sure there are only two official sources for Bolger plans? I
just received a set of Bolger plans from Common Sense Boats(CSB). So
are you saying that CSB is selling bootlegged plans? Now I'm
confused! I will have to look into this, I had been under the
impression that CSB was authorized to distribute the Bolger plans.
Does anyone else know about this?

An excellent magazine, by and about boat people
and their funky boats. Comes out twice a
month, and is worth twice its price for
the Bolger article in every issue. MAIB is
just the opposite of the other 'more glossy' boat
magazines.
I suspect my wife of stealing it from our
mailbox every so often :)

OK, I've looked at some of the photos on file here and agree that it
looks like a Champlain. Can you explain what MAIB is? I'm not
familiar with the acronym. Also, I've not seen any plans for a
Champlain anywhere. It doesn't seem to be on Payson's site and I
gather that Phil doesn't have a site of his own. Does anyone know of
a site where Champlain plans are shown and/or sold? Thanks again!

OK, I found the ad in WB. Looks like a stretched Champlain. There is also a
Montgomery-built Retriever for sale in MAIB for half the asking price of
this one. From what I've been able to determine, the used market for these
boats is pretty soft whether professionally built or not. They seem to
ultimately sell for less than the cost the materials, which makes the cost
of ownership much better for the homebuilder than for the guy who
commissioned the custom builds.
I'd sure like that 24'er in WB for a cruise down the Tennessee river.

this one. From what I've been able to determine, the used market for these
boats is pretty soft whether professionally built or not. They seem to

of ownership much better for the homebuilder than for the guy who
commissioned the custom builds.

Could it be "Retriever" also advertised in MAIB? That boat is in Wisconsin
for less than $30K which seems to be a better deal than the another boat
(Champlain, I think) advertised at more than $50K. The seller was justifying
his price on "more than $75K invested." Zounds! $75K for a 22'er...

I was browsing through the latest Wooden Boat and saw a classified
for a 24' Bolger designed Trawler. I haven't seen this design
mentioned anywhere before. Is anyone familiar with it? If so, where
might I find more information, plans, etc. Thanks.
