Re: Sailling the micro just off shore.
David ,
I was just looking over some of the jiffy reefing hardware myself.
Looks Like it could work once you figure where are the hardeware will
go to make it work smoothly on a leg o mutten.
It would be nice to just pull one line and be done with it.

Todd,
I am working on the same problem. I agree that placing another
block near the mast and running an line back would be a great help.
I was thinking of installing a jiffy reefing style set up with a
cheek block on the sprint opposite a pad eye, this could be set
slightly behind the reef clew position to provide an outhaul, and the
reefing line would be set up prior to sailing and led to a cleat just
forward on the sprit.
This would leave the sheeting position the same.
What do you think?

It would have to be blowing a steady 20 knots I think before I

My crew flaked! I single handed.
I have to figure a way to reef the main with out having to go to far
foward. Just in case I get cought out in a blow and by myself. I was
thinking of putting a cheek block on the side of the mast to run a
line from the new tack reef point back to a cleat on the cabin next
to the halyard cleat. Also run a line from the clue reef point to the
same cleat the main clue line is attached to. I reefed the sail
today just to see if i could with the line I have on the sail . I did
but we were beached I wouldn't be able to out in open water when
its blowing 20knots by myself with out it being a great ordeal. I
sailed with a reef in the main today in 12 to 15 in the bay just to
see how the boat would respond . It was slow. But still able to
balance the helm with the mizzen. Shook out the reef and off we
went. It would have to be blowing a steady 20 knots I think before I
would want to reef. Hope to find out soon anyways.

Mike Masten
singlehand the boat?

Had a fantastic day sailing on Sat. Took the micro out into the open
ocean. Wind was light 6 to 12 knots with some stronger puffs maybe to
14. I was pretty nervous seeing that wide expance at the end of the
channel and not knowing what to expect. Then right at entrance of the
channel a big cabin cruiser enters and brings with it half the ocean.
The first wave was no big deal the second shot the boat skyward then
fell just as fast with a load bang and a shutter into the trough.
The third wave was just the same but with less intensity.
Wheww....... made it to the outside and still in one piece. The sea
is always very confused at the entrance to the channel but once past
it it smooths out. Once on a broad reach and running with the short
steep chop it was pleasant and comfortable. Well until a big motor
cruiser passed right by and before I knew it beam to its wake i was
on my ear to starboard them rolled back over to port then back over
to starboard whewwwwwwww took on a little water through the drain
holes on deck. I thought for sure I was going for a swim. Beyond that
the day was great . I was out for 6hours and didn't want it to end.
Coming back in I was greeted with a school of dolphines. Beautiful
ending to a beautiful day sailing.
