Birdwatcher and Oddly Enough, A Macintosh Question
All,
I am please to report that my "free" Birdwatcher is nearing the point
of launchability. Some few fixes to a frame or two and the fore and aft
deck sections, and a paint job. The mast and spars are coming along. A
full report with photos will follow sometime in the next few weeks. The
main problem was cutting out delaminated plywood in the bottom and re-
sheathing and then filling in the hole left by the sawzall. The bad ply
rotted one frame which I am just now replacing with a heftier piece of
pressure-treated wood, though I suppose I could have laminated up some
marine fir easily enough.

The problem:
Kent County MD Historical Society has been given over the past few
years 3 Power Macs - a 6500, a 6360, and a 62-something. None are
powerful enough to run "System 9" much less OS-X. Occasionally I get to
act as Mr Tech Engineer on these boxes, which are running System 7.6.1
because that's what I have available. None came with the original
software CDs.
Years ago when I belonged to Berkeley Mac Users Group I would have had
a fairly simple time finding someone with an unused or unneeded System
8.5. Now I'm off in the boonies and at wits' end.
So I'm reduced to asking any Macintosh users in a couple of the
discussion lists where I lurk about if they happen to have an unused
System 8.5 kit hanging around which they could donate to the HSKC.
Like I said, contact me atdadadata@...if you have any leads
or just wanna give me a hard time for posting an extraneous question <
chuckle>. I won't clutter the list further with off-topic material.
