There is a Bolger Designed catboat around 24 feet built of cement that
is somewhere around the North Shore of Boston, don't know if that is
the Classy Cat or not.

Just for the sake of completeness, let me ask: Is the 21'10" catboat the
"leeboard catboat"? It is one of my favorites. However, there is another
21' catboat which is a hard chine design. I have never seen that Mr. Bolger
has published the design, however it was listed by Lawence Warner'
brokerage, and I spoke to Mr. Warner about it. The boat was build of
ply/epoxy in Canada.

When you ask PCB about that, you can ask about the following listed in the
Catboat Association list of member's' boats:

Classy Cat, 25', built 1977 by Kervan Associates.

There is also the Cynthia J. design, of which I once owned and sailed a copy.

Thanks to all who offered suggestions on Bolger catboats, especially
Dave Thibodeau for his fantastic MAIB index. I called Bob Hicks this
morning and he is sending me copies of PCB's columns on #7/#530
Charlie's Catboat 29' (wow!), #535 Plywood Catboat 15'6", #536 Cruising
Catboat 21'10", and #589 Catfish Beach Cruiser.

I'd love to hear any comments on any of these designs, whether
theoretical or first hand.

Matthew,

Here are some of the traditional catboats that Phil Bolger has
designed.

Catboats:
#7 (#530) Charlie's Catboat 29'x8'3" 9 8 23
#535 Plywood Catboat 15'6"x6'6" 12 10 28
#536 Cruising Catboat 21'10"x7'9" 12 5 28
#594 Spartina 15'4"x7' Catboat 11 5 28
Mouser (aka Garfield) 16' Catboat 1 12 3

The numeric references are the Volume, Issue, and Page in Messing
About in Boats where you may find each design.

Matthew,

You would have to go to the source for a complete list. For example, I know
that he has designed at least one, and I think at least two, Cape Cod
catboats that have not appeared in any of his books.

Try Lynx. She's a beautiful 14 foot catboat with a little cabin - fairly
deep keeled - not a centreboarder. I don't recall which of Phil's books
she's written up in.

Harbinger is another - this time a cold molded open 15 footer.

Then, of course, there's the Bobcat ('Instant Catboat') a tack and tape 12
footer based on the Beetle Cat.

straight catboats has PCB done?

I don't mean cat-yawls, cat-ketches, cat-schooners, or various
cat-rigged designs, but cruising or camp-cruising catboats that would
be at home in any port on Cape Cod.

Thanks,

Matthew
