Re: WDJ Mast problems

Jack
I have not heard anything from PB&F yet. Painted the WDJ inside and
out today and have oiled all spars. Launching day is aproaching with
an uncredibly speed. Pictures will be uploaded tomorrow!
The convex side of the mast goes forward (had to decide today because
of the groove for the cable to the masthead light).
I intend to make a small videoclip for PB and SA of the launching and
first sea trials. Want a copy?

I'm sure you're right, Bjorn. The leg-o-mutton on the Gypsy appears to need
the fishing rod action of a flexible mast. I cut 4 ft. off the defective
mast and made a 72 sq. ft. Tyvek spritsail with sprit boom. The shorter,
relatively stouter mast shows no noticeable bend at all, even with the
additional 13 sq. ft. of sail. Do share what you hear back from PCB&Friends.
I've yet to create a perfectly straight mast, so it will be good to hear his
comments. I truly ache to get started on WDJ. I even have indoor semi-heated
space to work in. I admire your heroic accomplishment to get a boat of that
scale built under a tree in Oslo. $$ is my current obstacle to schooner
work, thus restoring the Micro over the winter will keep me from going mad.
Hope to start WDJ by fall 03. All the best.
