Re: FAO Out drive
No, not yet but I found some others on the web that mimic the Asian
style longtails. In Vietnam and Thailand they use any type of motor
from scooters to auto engines to power their boats. I have been in
one with a nissan engine that had a radiator mounted in front of the
motor. They just used a longer shaft to counter balance the extra
weight. It was very fast and loud, they don't like mufflers for some
reason. And just for kicks look at the Bolger design pods on the back
of some of sites mud boats I just gave you. They claim its their
discovery. A handy fellow can make any of these motors for half or
less of the prices they have placed on them. It sure beats the price
of a new outboard motor, IMHO.

One of the members of this group had sent off to Italy for the plans for
a cheap outdrive substitute. I was very interested, but cleverly lost
the original post.
