Or, use a wax paper peel ply layer to squish the edges down.

You cannot sand kevlar. I ruined a sanding belt from heat build up trying to fair it out. You can knock down the raise edge to a fuzz but that's it. Keep the belt sander going and you can go through but it builds heat fast.

I got lucky and got a nice smooth installation, it would be h.... if you had to redo it.

If it helps, next time I'll lay on the kevlar and let it cure. Knock down the edges and then put on the fiber glass protection tapes to cover the fuzz for an easier finish.
