[bolger] Re: landroval's first sail

saw your picture really looks first class. Sorry I couldn't get there with
the birdwatcher would like to see just how the two would match up. I'm sure
the birdwatcher is the more comfortable boat of the three,Sea Pearl and the
Martha Jane out of the wind and sun but she does lack something in the way
of accomadations congratulations !!!!!!! bob archibald
i am Bill their much apreciated thanx for all that have been sent

Pictures included with the posts only enhance them, IMHO. Steve's MJ is now
my wallpaper. As far as I can tell, the resistance to attached files dates
back to the ancient text-only e-mail programs. With ones like Outlook
Express available for free, why use them?

Don't feel bad Peter. Nights in Central Florida have been in the upper 30s to
upper 40s range this year. Waiting for warmer weather to do the frames on

Remember; the Titanic was built by the professionals, but Noah's Ark by
amatuers!
Thanks to all on the good wishes and congrats/ Answering some of your
questions - it was a windy day. The forecast was for 15mph and gusts to 25.
It was probably 15 but the gust were much smaller than predicted. She charged
right ahead with no regard at all for wind and waves. She's a strong sailor.
Being used to sailing a seapearl 21 she seemed rock steady - She has no
"furnishings" inside yet which meant that the pounding was accentuated - she
was like a timpany drum at times! Performancewise - she seemed to sail right
along with the sea pearl 21 which accompanied us, and that's saying a lot
because a sea pearl 21 is a fine sailing boat. We seemed to point about the
same as well - the skipper of the sea pearl claims we pointed higher - but
I'm not sure. One big difference between the two boats is that my crew would
have been wet and cold after the first 15 minutes - we were all high and dry
all day long with my daughter snug in the cabin with her headphones on
listening to INSYNC. I was delighted with the performance. We find the
leeboards heavy to haul up - that's also true of the sea pearl. I had
originally tryed taking a turn in the lanyard to run it farther back to the
helm so I could reach it without leaving the tiller - one very slight turn
thru a fairlead made the board impossible to pull up even for me - 6'2" and
215 lbs. So we stuck with a swiveling cam cleat with a dead eye and an extra
length of lanyard - I can reach it from the helm easily.

We didn't have any champaign - so she was christened with beer - that seems
appropriate!

The sails were made by gamble and hunter in camden maine - a fine fine job
with tremendous attention to detail.

We experimented with heaving to - she didn't point up as high as I would hope
- someone later suggested lifting the rudder when heaving to - he said that
in his sea pearl that makes all the difference in the world - the rudder
causes her to fall off a bit. I'll try that next time.

A bunch of lines! Thank God for lazy jacks.

All in all we are delighted. The final question that was asked - we are in
the daytona beach area of florida.

As long as the pictures are as small as this one (40K) I see no problem. Great picture! Beautiful boat. That goes for the Micro with the no anxiety keel as well! Most impressive!

Lovely picture Steve, I promise to get the building shots up in
the next week. Who took the sailing photo?

Steve and all;
What a delight to see such a beautiful craft.
Best regards, Warren
What an absolutely lovely shot of a perfectly beautiful creation. Let
this settle the issue: the boxboat Martha Jane is the envy of the fleet
in grace, form, lightness, lines. The shapes and surfaces of her
profile allow very interesting color schemes. Please now, Steve, tell
us her story and all the special things you did. First of all, where
are you?
