Check out Michalaks idea for steering with a push/pull
steering stick and an electric motor.

On a whim today we threw our 36 lb thrust Minkota trolling motor on the
Featherwind. I'd read that a well designed displacement hull was ideal
for electric propulsion, and I recently enjoyed Phil bolger's Lily video
so I was curious how it would work. My wife Julie and I placed a couple
of plastic patio chairs facing each other a la Lily and glided onto our
North Florida lake. We had snacks and happy hour while watching herons,
egrets and an otter at play. Ahhh... this is the life. I have no way of
measuring how much current we were drawing, but the smooth wakeless
passage was quite a contrast to the way our John boat or square sterned
canoe moves with the same motor. The extreme rocker and the way the stem
and transom clear the water made the craft move almost as well backwards
as forwards. And sitting up was an enjoyable contrast to our bottom of
the boat seating while under sail. Great fun really, and if we were
anglers it would be a great fishing platform. I'd like to try running
steering lines around the the gunwales so she can be steered from anyway
in the boat.
Fair electric winds!.... ;-)

Fair electric winds!.... ;-)
