Everything just said above,in spades.Besides,Bruce, the cabin is
really too short for any strolling along with hands in pockets( or
cold brewskis!).For that,you may want a CHAMPLAIN,WINDERMERE
or...what the hell....an aircraft carrier for that sort of
gentlemanly comportment.I've always thought a brisk walk around the
(flight)deck would be just the ticket for morning constitutionals....
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, wishing he had a cold beer or two right about now as we
swelter through another 33deg.Celsius day...yup!

The Birdwatcher has a canvas thing along the top, not a ply hatch,
though it could be anything.

Two issues come to mind, one is structural integrity. That roof is
completing the box beam that the boat is, so I don't know whether
that is a structural issue or not. The other issue is flooding.
Birdwatcher has passive positive floatation, Micro could sink like an
anchor. These would be the issues I would run past Phil.

I'll be wrestleing with how to make the hatch soon and was wondering
if there was any reason not to run the slot right up to the forward
end of the cabin as in Birdwater, Whalewatcher and most of Jim
Michalak's designs?

As Phil says its nice to walk to the bow with your hands in your
pockets and wrangle the sails from a totally protected position.

I'd like to do it with a conventional sliding hatch for the 24" or so
closest to the cabin, then slide in (or bolt on with wing-nuts)
plywood panels for the rest of the run up to bulkhead A. Or maybe
overlapping panels that slide in a trough the length of the slot.

How is it done in the other designs? Would it hurt the Micro design?

Idea's please, Ladies and (I use the term most loosely) "Gentlemen".

Bruce Hector, I'll just down a pint as I cool down and get the epoxy
off. I've just finished bonding in the berth risers and frames. Berth
flats going in this evening.
