Re: [bolger] Re: PB Model Photos uploaded

I've seen many of the step variants...honestly, IMHO a plain V hull would be an easier build (in scale that is..)

Yeah, the good scale electric O/Bs have vanished, so its got to be inboard AND enough void below deck for RC gear, Battery mains and so on...have seen one scale I/O but I need to do much boiler-plate testing before I commit to another competitive Model...

I assume you are aware of Bolger's step sharpie, or "box forefoot"
concept, as appears in the MicroTrawler, Hawkeye, the second version
of Sneakeasy, etc.

Now that I think about it, it is designed for outboard power, and you
probably want an inboard.

Champlain is a displacement speed (i.e. 6kts) version and Retriever
is a high-speed (20kts?) version. There is an example for sale in the
current MAIB. I suppose the Abondanza fishing boat is pretty close
to "Utility" in terms of layout.

It had appealed to me for many reasons, including its appearance (realizing all the well that IMHO the appearance would hopefully garner points for its "unique" lines...had it been a woman, it would have been most likely known as a good cook with a wonderful personality who made ALL her own clothes...<g>)

The Model was chosen as a build-up to compete in the three main categories of competition for RC scale: Precision Steering, Static Judging, and In-Water Operating Scale. Without reliable and PRECISE backing, 2 of the 3 events would be losers out the box. Finish it? Doubtful....one of the many projects underway is a diorama of a boat-building shed for displaying Models under construction, and the parts of Gold Dust Woman will probably be lying about the interior of the shed...

The RETRIEVER doesn't ring a bell...pique my memory if you can...

PB's 22' Plywood Diesel Utility for Homebuilders...

Thanks for sharing this material. I have wondered from time to time
whether any boats were ever built from that plan, and how it really
looked in 3D. I did suspect that PB thought some of his newer designs
were better all around, but I never guessed that the tunnel had
caused handling problems.

Are you going to finish the model?

Has Bolger designed a boat that would amount to a utility treatment
of the Retriever underbody?

Peter

...just uploaded a set of photos of frames from the previously described uncompleted 1/8 RC scale model (to be christened Gold Dust Woman) of PB's 22' Plywood Diesel Utility for Homebuilders...look under 'Photos' for the 'Bolger RC Models' folder then go to the "22' " folder...
