Re: Diablo Grande Opinions Sought

Geoff,
Diablo is a smooth water boat. The flat bottom will pound in a
moderate chop and knock your fillings out. But, there is no boat
that you can build for around $300 and have as much fun with. I get
15mph with a 10hp longshaft Johnson. Turns on a dime, fastest
distance between two points! all that stuff. Just do not go
straight into a large 3' chop, take it on the bias. Downwind
performance is wonderful, the full bow does not plow under.
(I almost flipped her going out of the harbor into a large chop one
day, I hastily scrambled forward) I now bring my son with me to
hold the bow down! :-)

I am looking for feedback from people that have built the Diablo
Grande (or Diablo). I am considering building one, but before I do, I
would like to know how it performs compared to an equivalent-sized V-
bottom. How does it do in a head sea or a following sea? Any problem
with pounding? How is the turning and straight-line performance? Was
it easy to build?

Thanks in advance for the help.
