Re: cold moulded constructoin
My first boat was a cold moulded 11' moth scow . It had a superb
shape. Built in 1961 it secumbed to internal rot in 1985. When the
new owner pulled it to bits they recovered the top and bottom shells
and reframed it all the interior of the hull was all balsa. Lead
weights had been glued and bolted inside to bring it up to the
minimum class weight. the glur was probably that horsehoof stuff.
The 2 veneers gave the hull 1/8 thickness when sanded back .
I dont think yud get away with 1/8 ply as each veneer. This hull had
some mighty sexy curves baby.
with a set of aluminium wings to make it 8' wide and 85' of sail on
a real tall mast, she would fly. Me being light meant she'd nosedive
downwind all the time . I never finished a race in it.
cheers Paul
