Re: 3D computer model of Superbrick almost finished

The Superbrick is one of the boats in Boats With An Open Mind.
Detailed drawings are in that book, along with Phil's commentary.

As far as I recall, since I don't have the book handy right now, the
basic idea was to 'thumb the nose' at the traditional yachting
establishment as much as possible, designing a boat that would be
really cheap for space, sail terribly, but would float right side up,
and could move around.. which arguably are the only relly important
criterion for ANY boat design. Someone must have suggested making the
brick a cruiser and this design likely came out of a few pipefuls of
strong stuff and a 1/2 month of weekends.

Bruce: Just in time! The pictures I have so far are of much poorer
quality than the one you linked to. Your image will allow me to
modify the interior, and make it a bit more accurate... I'll add the
writing shelf arrangement, and convert the opposite "dresser" to the
icebox, as it should be. Any others? Rich.

Really cool! I got them
cycling as my screen saver
at the moment.

You didn't show <grin> what I
think is one of the coolest
features of the interior,
which is the writing desk
seating position on the
corner of the bed.

Kevin: Thanks for the comments on the model. The Superbrick appears
in the 1992 Common Sense Catalog as a prototype. The members of this
group were very helpful to me in tracking down some plan and profile
drawings of the boat, so I could build the model. I've not been able
to determine if anyone has built one.

The catalog entry reads, "Superbrick- At 19'6" x 7' 10", Superbrick
is a boat that couldn't be done and many will say shouldn't. In
reality she is a sailing houseboat, capable of comfortable long
distance cruising while providing a dockside home that won't break
you with mooring fees. This is a boat for the few and unconventional
who like the idea of putting a 32' boat in a 19' package." I'm not
sure if those were Bernard Wolfard's words or Phil's.

To my knowledge, this is the only boat which comes close to filling
it's particular niche. Rich.

Any details about the boat anyone? Just to satisfy my curiosity?
