I think you tweeked it a bit much. In BWAOM, Bolger says "Maximum speed,
power or sail, is about 5 kts., with a rolling wake and a bone in its teeth."

Bruce: Unfortunately, we can't go by the sailing performance as
demonstrated by this Superbrick. Virtual Sailor, like most
simulators, doesn't read the graphics files to make it's performance
decisions... it reads the file you'll find called "boat.cfg". You can
open this in Notepad and look at it.

In the case of the Superbrick boat.cfg, I tweeked it so that it WOULD
sail... but you could plug more "authentic" numbers into the cfg to
see what would happen. For instance, the real Superbrick would have a
real high "cdf", as it is so "blunt". But I have a figure in there of
only .05, so that I would get about 8 knots hull speed. And so on. I
tweeked the cfg to get a reasonable sailing performance, which may
not be accurate.

On the flip side, don't be discouraged if you put real numbers in
the .cfg and the boat does not sail well. We've compared simulated
boats with accurate boat.cfg's, with the real boat's perfomance...
and in every case, the boat.cfg needed to be adjusted from "real" to
get the sim boat to act properly.

But I do hope someone builds this boat, someday. I'll drive awful far
to check it out! Rich.

Be the neighborhood Noah and build it in the front yard. You'll have
the neighbors really scratching their heads.

Steve.

This is so cool! Works
on my XP system. In my
mind at least, the simulation
ends the question of whether
Superbrick 'can sail'!

My brain is now scheming
how to build one in my
backyard, and extract it
out to the street.
With only 7'10" clear to get
from the backyard to the frontyard.

If I tip the hull up on its
side, on rollers, I can squeeze
the boat out.
The requirements list says Win98, but it does work on my XP system.

It takes some patience to learn to use it.

Problem,

VS doesn't work with XP.

Shucks!

The 3D model of PCB's Superbrick is ready for download at my Virtual
Sailor add-on site, the Chum Bucket:
http://www.angelfire.com/space/proto57/
Be sure to read the included "readme.html" in your browser, after
download.

For those unfamiliar with Ilan Papini's sailing simulator, Virtual
Sailor, check out:http://www.avsim.com/vsYou can download a free
demo of Virtual Sailor from there. To install the Superbrick, first
install the demo of VS. In the "boats" folder, create a folder
named "superbrick", and extract the contents of "superbrick.zip" into
this folder. When running Virtual Sailor, move your cursor to the
top, and click on "change", then "boat", then click on "superbrick"
to load it.

Virtual Sailor simulates the entire marine envoirment, and allows you
to control all aspects of wind, weather and waves. You can create or
download boats, submarines, and scenery. All add-ons are freeware,
created by users of the sim, and there are hundreds. The Superbrick,
and my previous AS-29, are the two Bolger boats available. They are
complete with interiors, and you can "wander" around their interiors,
and get a feel for what these boats may be like in person. Perhaps we
have some 3D CAD modelers in this bunch, who would like to make some
more of the Bolger fleet. I'd love to see a Micro myself! And maybe
I'll make my honeymoon boat, which we chartered in Florida: Tashtego,
a Black Skimmer built by Walter Baron.

Superbrick and AS-29 have working lights, sails, and props. If you
click on "a" (to anchor), a Brick dinghy will appear, tethered to
your stern. Thanks to everyone in this group for all your comments
and help in getting the necessary resources together to make this an
accurate model. Rich SantaColoma.
