Re: Square Women?
Hi Nels,
Sorry, the coloured drawing is now laminated onto a piece of wood
and framed. My scanning buddy won't touch it.
That last time I can recall my dollar at par with the U.S was
when girls were not allowed into my treehouse or anywhere near"my
stuff".Today,I amuse myself by thinking how glad I am to have grown
up despite some tense moments where the "old rules" would have
avoided alot of wasted breath :-)
Playing on the computer is NOT work for me and if house work
counts,then yes,I"work" Saturdays too......but I do play when the
Pesky Crew steps out on another mission to consummer hell......
See? I'm doing it again and this is Sunday! I let her sleep in as
long as she wants :-)!!
Ta!Ta!

Hi Nels, there was a great english poet, writer or composer, can't
remember which. A woman came into the room one day, and he thought
she was the ugliest woman he had ever seen. After talking to her, he
was smitten, they were married and he doted upon her for the rest of
his life.
Probably Bantam is in the same category.

Thanks Peter for exposing to the public another problem of mine:-)
I was wondering if it would be possible to post the colored drawing
of Windemere you mentioned - for us dreamers?
I was checking through the old issues of CSD newsletters and
discovered that Rev. Merv Skey from Duncan B.C. christened his
Micro "Ugly Duckling". He built it expoxy-free as he was allergic. I
wonder if he is a member?
I came across an old newsletter that is not on file so I posted it to
Bolger3. It has the closing out price list for the plans that Bernie
was no longer allowed to market. Makes one weep to read it now.
Tennessee plans for $37.50 anyone? And that was when the Canuck buck
was equal to the American! Woe is me... Nels

Dark hulls are much more easily seen with a band of reflective 3M
tape, like on the sides of cop cars, around the hull. On black or
navy a reflective gold band would look pretty good. It's also
avaiable in white, red, blue and believe it or not black! Perhaps all
the colours of the rainbow now, I haven't bought any for a few years.
Another tip is to put another couple of bands around your mast or
antenna, makes it real easy to find your boat when rowing back
through a crowded ankorage with a few brewskis in ya' on a dark
night. One quick play of the flashilght beam and your vessel lights
up like a Christmas tree. A band around the dinghy can't hurt either,
might help keep ya' from being run down by someone some dark and
stormy'.
I've got this stuff on my Rust Check promotional vehicles and they do
stand out at night.

Nels,
It is not affliction......but rather more a question of personal
taste.Think of it like all our varied taste in women. There just ain't
no explaining it! :-)

Yes Peter, I have a twinge of conscience about Windermere and
Champlain. I agree they are beautiful and above all sensible boats,
and I guess Bolger's answer to the State series drawbacks. But for
sheer indulgent elegance, you would have to admit the States,
especially Dakota, are ahead on aesthetics.
I would love to build a Bantam, just because they are such an "Ugly
Duckling". A good name for one don't you think?

Hey Don,whaddabout the CHAMPLAIN family of cruisers?! They are every
bit eye candy as the states series and come with headroom in
22'CHAMPLAIN and 31' WINDERMERE.Lots of potential for builders to

The State series cruisers are perhaps the most aesthetically
pleasing square boats that Bolger has designed, but the problem is,
you have to go to the 38ft Dakota to get near full headroom (I
think).
Even Tennessee looks to be stoop and crawl.
By contrast Bolgers tri power cruiser, Bantam, looks to have full
headroom on 20ft, presumably because of the great stability. A pity
it is also perhaps the ugliest boat Bolger has ever designed!
