That's been my experience. I can also get the MDO locally, delivered to my
house. I switched over to it exclusively. If I want ash or teak, I'll
laminate veneer on it.

Why, because it is "marine", or course.
Personaly, I'm a big proponent of MDO. I think it's even better than most
marine plywood.
